Stichting Knopen was founded in 2012 by Silvia Bennett, Emese Csornai and Ellen Knops.
Knopen in Dutch means Buttons. The button is connecting together parts of the same fabric, in our case the fabric is Art. In fact the core objective of the Association is to be a platform where different forms of art can find an exchange amongst each other. Stichting Knopen is fond of humanistic values and is busy in re-injecting higher vantage points reached by this collaborative research into society.

The object of the Stiching is to develop and produce performances in the field of dance, installation and movement theatre, and to organize workshops and other educational activities in these fields.
Stichting Knopen is also dedicated to organize workshops collaborating with professionals of analytical sciences such as anthropology, psychology, human ethology and sociology with staged art.Stichting Knopen promotes artists, develops and produces contemporary art, activities that increase the awareness of people about Art.

Since 2016 choreographer and dancer Manuela Lucia Tessi has started to run some of her collaborative projects through the Stichting. The main activities of the Stichting since 2022 are interdisciplinary music, dance and community projects, many of which by the ensemble Moving Strings.
